Summer bridge program for underprivileged Latino minorities

Over the summer there is an especially large drop in academics throughout lower socioeconomic areas, often populated by minorities. This summer learning gap creates a disparity in knowledge, retention, and eventually high school graduation rates and college attendance between students of low socioeconomic status and their more affluent peers. Socioeconomically disadvantaged minority students are often first-generation students who are not proficient in English and who have limited resources at home to help with language acquisition. This Summer Bridge program was created to help improve English language proficiency, increase college awareness, and improve motivation through chosen curricula and activities.
